Earlier this year, my doctor surprised me with one of the most unexpected — and genuinely amazing — gifts I’ve ever received: a stack of X-Men comics from his own collection.
Among them were X-Men #5, #9, #14, and #16 — absolute gems from the original Silver Age run by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Holding these issues feels like holding pieces of comic history. Every page still has that old-paper scent and that raw, 1960s energy that built the foundation for everything the X-Men would become.
But that wasn’t all — he even threw in a few bonus books, which made the surprise even better. It’s not every day someone hands you vintage X-Men comics just because they know how much you love the medium.
Moments like this remind me why I love collecting. It’s not just about value — it’s about connection, history, and sharing passion across generations.
Huge thanks to my doctor for this incredible gift — these books have officially become a highlight of my collection (and honestly, a great reminder that there are heroes in every profession).
Stay nerdy,
Randell
