Several months ago, I finally got my hands on something truly precious — The Hobbit three-issue comic adaptation, originally published by Eclipse Comics and illustrated by David Wenzel. 🏔️✨
These issues are beautifully done — a faithful retelling of Tolkien’s masterpiece, packed with rich watercolor art and classic early-’90s charm. Wenzel’s depiction of Middle-earth captures everything I love about Tolkien’s world: warm, detailed, and just the right mix of whimsy and danger.
As a collector and lifelong Tolkien fan, this set feels like owning a small piece of literary history — something that bridges the books I grew up with and the films that brought them to life on the big screen.
And speaking of the films... I’m really hoping that Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins), Ian McKellen (Gandalf), and Andy Serkis (Sméagol/Gollum) will make appearances at MegaCon next year.
If they do, you better believe my friend in Florida will get them signed and graded for me — they’d make for an unforgettable set of signatures!
Until then, this little collection sits proudly among my other fantasy grails — proof that even after all these years, Tolkien’s magic still runs deep.
Stay nerdy,
Randell
